Message from itSMF LA’s New President


I hope 2016 is off to a fantastic start, wherever your attention is focused.  I also want to say welcome to many of you that are new members and thank you to those that continue to participate and leverage the benefits of itSMF USA.


For the LA LIG, we’re off and running having just held our first meeting of the year at our San Gabriel Valley Chapter on the topic of Competing for your Future: Job Tips for the Next Generation.  This was a great interactive discussion led by Robin Borough's with Omnikron Systems.

I was present for this meeting and as I listened to the presentation and observed the discussion of those in attendance; I was reminded of the focus areas discussed by the LA Board during our year-end planning session.


  1. Membership Value – Are we clearly communicating the value proposition to members and prospective members?
  2. Community Participation – It truly takes an active and engaged member base, the more we get involved, the more we can get done and this we believe is where value is realized.
  3. Growth & Education – Apart from the experience gained through various industries; involvement in itSMF USA has been by far the biggest enabler for my career.


So what does all of this mean to you as a member and why should I care? Here is my challenge to you in helping us achieve our vision in being the trusted, independent industry unifier and ambassadors of IT Service Management:


  1. Take advantage of the communicated Membership Value & Benefits and give us feedback where we can increase our value.
  2. Get involved within the ITSM Community, whether it’s volunteering with itSMF USA or just being an advocate in your own organization, your participation helps all of us.
  3. Share the knowledge of ITSM and related areas that you’ve gained in your career.  By demonstrating how sound ITSM principles help solve business problems we are moving this organization forward and hopefully enabling further development in our own careers.


We look forward to seeing you at a future event and hope that you continue to participate and leverage your membership with itSMF USA.

itSMF LA Magic Castle Kickoff Meeting a Smash Hit!

 

January 15th we held our Annual Kickoff Meeting at the "MAGIC CASTLE".  The event was attended by 90 members and guests - a SELL OUT crowd for the Magic Castle!  

 

We presented plans for the coming year, enjoyed a special guest speaker, and handed out awards and recognition.  Games and prizes we presented to attendees, and of course astounding MAGIC was performed by Magic Castle magicians, along with a delightful dinner!

March 17th, Los Angeles Area.  “IT4IT”, a new emerging IT best practice sponsored by the Open Group. The IT4IT Reference Architecture prescribes holistic management of the business of IT with continuous insight and control, enabling Boundaryless Information Flow across the entire IT Value Chain. IT4IT comprises a reference architecture and a value chain-based operating model for managing the business of IT.  It provides prescriptive guidance on how to design, procure and implement the functionality needed to run IT. The end-to-end, ‘how to’ emphasis of the IT Value Chain and IT4IT Reference Architecture also enables the state of services that IT delivers to be systematically tracked across the service lifecycle.

Roc Paez, a member of our itSMF LA Board, and a seasoned IT consultant and instructor for HP, is the speaker planned for this event, Th

March 22nd, Orange County Area.  Our upcoming Orange County Area meeting will be a lunch meeting, on the topic of “Service Recovery Management”. 

In today’s “always on” world, managing the restoration of a critical business service is a key business function. A coordinated notifications effort, timely recovery, and targeted communications are vital components of a successfully recovery. This round table will share and discuss current processes, communication protocols and, technologies employed and what processes and technologies are merging in this discipline.

New AXELOS White Paper – ITIL and HDI “Better Together”


Just announced! A new white paper is available on the Axelos web site, discussing how the HDI Standard and ITIL are "better together". The HDI Standard has been around since 2000, and is a widely accepted global standard for a best-practice "support center". New ITIL Practitioner Best-Practice Launched!

Earn PDU Credits for attending itSMF LA Meetings!

ItSMF USA Members will earn Professional Development Unit (PDU) continuing education credits when they attend an itSMF Los Angles LIG Meeting.  To claim your PDU credit, report your attendance at one of our sessions under “Category B – Continuing Education”.

 

Pickup up a “certificate of attendance“ before you leave our meeting, along with any handouts from the presentation delivered at the meeting.  When reporting, supply:

Hours spent attending the meeting (typically 2)
